Mission of Mercy:​

Madison House UVA Hospital Dental Unit Volunteer:

• 3hr/week at the hospital. Includes: Paperwork, shadowing dentists, and working in the dental lab.

 

Madison House Free Dental Clinic Volunteer:

• Time commitment varies based on clinics offered. Volunteers dental assist for the volunteer doctors.

Madison House Adopt-a-Grandparent:

• 1-2 hr/week. The program pairs student volunteers with elderly individuals from the local senior living facilities. Our volunteers have meaningful one-on-one interactions with these seniors on a weekly basis, fostering friendships and improving the quality of life for both the elderly individuals and the students. This volunteering opportunity offers pre-dental students an alternative to Madison House’s Medical Services programs.

Global Medical Dental Brigades:

• Student run organization that sends students on medical service trips Panama, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Trips range from 1-1.5 weeks.  UVA GMDB is a branch of Global Brigades, an international non-profit with the mission to empower communities to meet their health and economic goals through university volunteers and local teams.

 

Operation Smile:

• A non-profit organization that sends groups of doctors to developing countries to perform free surgeries on children who have cleft palates and cleft lips. Operation Smile at UVA raises money and awareness for the organization, primarily through our fall fundraiser called S'mores for Smiles where we give out free S'mores to children during Trick or Treat on the Lawn and collect donations.

VCU's Pre-Dental Day 

• This day will include lunch, a t-shirt, a presentation from the Dean of Admission on "The Ideal Candidate", carving wax teeth, and use of the DentSim Lab.
